Trynlaw, Stonehouse Road, Strathaven

Trynlaw is an earlier 19th century villa located on Stonehouse Road in Strathaven. It is a two-storey building with a basement and features a three-bay symmetrical design flanked by low two-bay wings. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar with decorative dressings.

The central entrance includes a door with a fanlight and a pilastered doorpiece, accessed by a flight of steps that has a decorative cast-iron handrail. The outer bays are bowed and have basement lights situated below a continuous band course. Throughout the building, there are four-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves, with the ground floor windows featuring cornices.

The villa has an eaves course and a broad dentilled cornice, along with end stacks and a piended slate roof. The recessed wings on either side rest over a rubble basement, and the outer pedimented bays are slightly advanced, each with segmental-headed windows. The inner gatepiers are squat and square in plan, standing on plinths and topped with scrolled gabled caps that have blank crests. A curved low retaining wall complements the entrance, while the outer gatepiers are capped with cornices.
