49, 51, 53 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

49, 51, 53 Marchmont Road is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built in 1887 by William Hogg, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. It features a base course, a string course above the first floor, and a corbel table at the third floor, along with chamfered reveals.

The west entrance elevation includes three roll-moulded doorways at the ground level, separated by single windows, with deep-set panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. Above, there are bipartite windows in the inner bays, while the third-floor windows break the eaves, set within pedimented dormerheads topped with stone finials. The outer left and right bays have full-height canted windows, each capped with facetted pyramidal roofs and cast-iron finials. The building is fitted with plate glass sash and case windows. It has a grey slate roof with corniced mutual stacks, moulded cans, and crowstepped mutual gables. The interiors were not seen in 1991. A low coped boundary wall runs along the street.
