37, 39, 41 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

37, 39, and 41 Marchmont Road in Edinburgh is a four-storey, five-bay tenement built in 1880, possibly by Alexander MacNaughton, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. The building features squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band course above the ground floor, and a corbel table at the third floor that steps down to form hoods over the first-floor windows in the first and fourth bays. The third-floor windows break the eaves.

On the entrance elevation, there are three stop-chamfered doorways with roll-moulded details, including one set into an angled second bay. The doorways have deep-set panelled doors and plate glass fanlights above them. There are single windows between each doorway, and bipartite windows on the third and fourth floors of the third and fourth bays. The third floor features pedimented and finialled dormerheads. A full-height canted window is located in the outer right bay, corbelled to a square at the crowstepped gablehead, with a circular patera inset. The second bay is angled and advanced, topped with a facetted pyramidal roof and a cast-iron finial. The outer left bay also has bipartite windows and a crowstepped gablehead. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and a corniced wallhead stack on the advanced angle bay, along with a corniced mutual stack, moulded octagonal cans, and beak skewputts. The interiors were not seen in 1991. A low boundary wall runs along the street.
