Description

43, 45, and 47 Marchmont Road is a four-storey, five-bay tenement building in the Scottish 17th century style, possibly designed by Alexander MacNaughton in 1880. The structure is built from square and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings and has been stone cleaned. It features a base course, a string course above the first floor, and a corbel table at the third floor. The third-floor windows break the eaves, and the gableheads are crowstepped with inset floral paterae in the outer bays. The reveals are chamfered.

On the west (entrance) elevation, there are three roll-moulded doorways located in the second, third, and fourth bays, separated by single windows. The doors are deep-set and panelled, with plate glass fanlights above. There are bipartite windows in the third and fourth bays, and pedimented dormerheads on the third floor. The second bay contains a single window with a pedimented dormerhead above it. The outer left and right bays feature full-height canted windows that are corbelled to a square at the gablehead. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, a corniced wallhead stack, coped mutual stacks, moulded cans, and beak skewputts.

The interior was not seen in 1991. The statutory address does not include the boundary wall.
