55 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

55 Marchmont Road is a four-storey, four-bay tenement building designed by William Hogg in 1887, showcasing a Scottish 17th century style. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished dressings. The building features a base course, a string course above the first floor, and a corbel table at the third floor. The crowstepped gables have paterae insets in the outer bays, and the third-floor windows in the inner bays have pedimented dormerheads with stone finials. The reveals are chamfered.

The entrance elevation includes a roll-moulded doorway at the center, leading to a deep-set panelled door with a plate glass fanlight above. There are single windows at the ground floor in the flanking bays, bipartite windows at the first and second floors, and single windows at the third floor. The outer left and right bays feature full-height canted windows that are corbelled to square at the gableheads. Most windows are plate glass sash and case, with a replacement three-light pivot window at the first floor to the left of center. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes coped mutual stacks, moulded cans, and beak skewputts. The interiors were not seen in 1991.

There is a low boundary wall along the street.
