57 Marchmont Road, Edinburgh

57 Marchmont Road is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built in 1887 by William Hogg, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building features a base course, a string course above the first floor that steps down to the center, and a corbel table at the third floor, along with chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, there is a roll-moulded doorway at the center, topped with a hoodmoulding and a square blank tablet above. The entrance includes a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. An incised gunloop is located between the first and second floors, with another square blank tablet at the eaves. The flanking bays contain single windows, which are linked above the eaves by a crowstepped gable that has a gablehead stack. The outer left and right bays feature full-height canted windows capped with facetted pyramidal roofs and cast-iron finials. The windows throughout are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes coped mutual stacks and beak skewputts.

The interior was not seen in 1991. There is a low boundary wall along the street.
