43 Marchmont Crescent, Edinburgh

43 Marchmont Crescent is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built in 1885 by William Hogg, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. It is located at the end of a curving terrace and constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings, which have been stone-cleaned. The building features a base course, a dividing band course above the ground floor, and a corbel table at the fourth floor that steps down to form segmental-arched hoods over the windows on the first floor. The reveals are chamfered, contrasting with the quoin detailing.

The entrance elevation includes a central roll-moulded doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. There are single windows in the flanking bays at ground level, with bipartite windows above. The third-floor windows are pedimented and topped with stone finials. Full-height canted windows are present in the outer left and right bays, corbelled to square at the crow-stepped gables, which feature floral terracotta paterae in the gableheads. The windows are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced mutual and gablehead stacks with moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1991. There is a low coped boundary wall along the street.
