Description
118, 120, and 122 Marchmont Road in Edinburgh is a four-storey, five-bay tenement built in 1886 by William Hogg, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. The building features squared and snecked sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. It has a base course and a corbel table at the third floor that steps down to the second floor, creating segmental-arched hoods between the bays. The windows have chamfered reveals, and there are deep-set panelled doors with plate glass fanlights.
On the entrance elevation, there is a central doorway with single windows above it, and a finialled semi-circular dormer head above the third-floor window. The second bay has a roll-moulded doorway with a single window flanking to the right, also featuring a semi-circular dormer head above the third-floor window. The fourth bay has a roll-moulded doorway with a single window to the left and a crow-stepped dormer head above the third-floor window. The outer left and right bays have full-height canted windows that are corbelled to a square at the crow-stepped gables, and there are arrow slits in the gable heads. The building is topped with a grey slate roof, a corniced wallhead stack, and a coped mutual stack.
There is a low boundary wall along the street. The interiors were not seen in 1991.
