The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, featuring contrasting polished ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a cornice above the shopfronts, and string courses above the first and second floors.

The elevation facing Marchmont Road has altered shopfronts and a main door at ground level, with a chamfered angle that includes a doorway to the outer right. Above the shopfronts, there are five bays. The outer left bay features a full-height two-light canted window topped with a facetted pyramidal roof and a decorative cast-iron finial. The second and third bays contain bipartite windows, while the third dormer heads have stone finials. The fourth bay has single windows, and there is a semi-circular dormer head above the third-floor window. The angle bay to the outer right also has a full-height canted window with a facetted pyramidal roof and a decorative cast-iron finial.

The elevation facing Thirlestane Road is blank at ground level and has three bays above. The first and second bays each contain single windows, with stone finials on the dormer heads of the third floor. The outer right bay features a full-height two-light canted window, also with a facetted pyramidal roof and a decorative cast-iron finial. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, corniced mutual and wallhead stacks, and moulded octagonal cans.
