Description

35 Marchmont Crescent in Edinburgh is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built in 1881 by Thomas P Marwick, designed in the Scottish 17th century style. It is part of a curving terrace and constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The building features a base course, a dividing band course above the ground floor, a corbel table, and a string course above the second floor, along with chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, there is a central doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. Above the second floor, a corbelled chimney breast displays shell detail. The gabled flanking bays have single windows, and a panelled heraldic datestone reading "1882" is set in the gablehead. The outer left and right bays have full-height canted windows, which are corbelled to square at the crowstepped gableheads, each topped with stone finials shaped like a star and a thistle. There are also hoodmoulded blank tablets set in the gableheads. The windows are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a corniced T-section gablehead stack, coped mutual stacks, moulded cans, scroll skewputts on the outer bays, gabletted skewputts on the central gable, and original rainwater hoppers. The interiors were not seen in 1991.

A low saddleback wall runs along the street.
