Description
14 Spottiswoode Street is a four-storey, four-bay tenement built in 1881 by Thomas P Marwick. It features Baronial details and is part of a terrace. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a dividing cornice above the ground floor, and a string course. The third floor has a bracketed corbel table that steps down to the second floor in the third bay, with chamfered reveals.
On the west entrance elevation, there is a roll-moulded doorway with a single window to the left in the second bay. The entrance has a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight, with single windows above. The third bay contains single windows. The second and third bays are linked by a crowstepped gable that features a gablehead stack and a floral patera set in the gablehead. Full-height canted windows are corbelled to square at the gablehead in the outer left and right bays. The gables have gablet skewputts, finials, and kneelers, with a blinded gunloop set in the gablehead to the outer left and a heraldic panel set in the gablehead to the outer right. The windows are plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a coped T-plan gablehead stack and coped mutual stacks.
The interiors were not seen in 1991. There is low boundary coping along the street.
