Description

11 and 13 Spottiswoode Street is a four-storey, four-bay tenement building designed by George Wilson in 1882. It features Jacobean details and is part of a terrace. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, accented with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. Notable architectural elements include a base course, a cill course at the first floor, a string course at the third floor, raised window surrounds, and chamfered reveals.

On the entrance elevation, there are paired pedimented doorways in the third bay, with panelled doors and margin-paned fanlights above. Single windows are located above these doorways, and there are scrolled open pediments over the third-floor windows. The second bay also has single windows and a scrolled open pediment above the third-floor window. The building features a curvilinear gable with a gablehead stack that connects the second and third bays, and there is a pedimented initial and date panel set in the gablehead. Full-height canted windows are present in the outer bays on the left and right, with a dividing cornice at the first floor and shaped aprons for the third-floor windows. The roofs of these windows are ogee-shaped with lead finials. The windows are plate glass sash and case style. The roof is finished with grey-green slate, and includes a corniced gablehead stack, coped mutual stacks, and scroll skewputts.

The property is bordered by a low coped boundary wall along the street. The interiors were not seen in 1991.
