Description

This building, located at 36, 38, and 40 Warrender Park Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1800 and is a four-storey, five-bay tenement featuring Baronial details. It is part of a terrace and has been stone-cleaned. The structure is made of squared and snecked cream sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Notable architectural elements include a base course, a dividing band course above the ground floor, and a corbel table at the third floor that steps down to the second floor. The doorways are roll-moulded, with deep-set panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. The third-floor windows break the eaves and are set in pediments with chamfered reveals.

On the north entrance elevation, the doorway is offset to the left in the second bay, with a single window above it and a crowstepped pediment. There are additional doorways offset to the right and bipartite windows offset to the left in the third and fourth bays, with bipartite windows above. A full-height canted window is corbelled to a square at the gablehead in the outer right bay. The outer left bay is advanced, featuring chamfered angles and two windows on each floor, topped with a polygonal roof and an iron finial. The building has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, rendered and coped mutual stacks, and beak skewputts. A low saddleback wall borders the street.

The interiors were not seen in 1991.
