Description

1 High Street in South Queensferry is a restaurant and tenement building that dates back to its establishment in 1776, with its current form dating from the mid-19th century. The structure is two stories high with an attic and has a rectangular plan. It is built from squared and snecked sandstone rubble, which is painted at the ground level. The building features a painted base course, a band course at the first floor, ashlar quoins at the first floor, polished margins, and a cornice on the main elevation.

The principal elevation faces south and includes a central two-leaf panelled door with a modern canopy, flanked by large windows. Above, there are single windows at the first floor and two canted dormers in the attic. The west elevation has two gable ends and features an entrance door with a fanlight in the center, along with an adjacent timber door and irregular fenestration. The north elevation was not visible in 2000, while the east elevation has an extension at the rear with stairs leading to a balcony that adjoins the adjacent building.

The main elevation has modern glazing, while the west elevation features six-pane sash and case timber windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has rendered corniced gablehead stacks and straight stone skews. The interior was not seen in 2000.
