57 Frederick Street, Edinburgh

57 Frederick Street in Edinburgh is a classical tenement building constructed between 1786 and 1792, with later alterations at the ground level. It features three storeys, a basement, and an attic, and has seven bays. The exterior is made of droved cream sandstone ashlar with polished dressings, long and short quoins, and an eaves cornice.

There are steps leading to the tenement door, which has a four-pane fanlight at the center. To the right is a modern shopfront with polished granite facing, which includes a door to the basement restaurant. To the left, there is a mid-19th century corniced shopfront with two large windows on the left and a deep-set double doorway on the right. This doorway has pilasters leading to the ground floor and a subsidiary door to the first floor, along with a separate basement bar.

The building has two 19th century piend-roofed timber dormers, with a tripartite design to the south and a canted design to the north. The windows are timber sash and case, with 12 panes in the common stair and first floor right, while the other windows are plate glass. The building features ashlar coped skews and rendered stacks, with brick to the south.

The interior was not seen in 1995. Additionally, there are cast-iron railings leading to the stairs.
