Description
25-29, 29A Castle Street in Edinburgh is a classical tenement building constructed between 1792 and 1794, with some later alterations. It stands three stories tall with an attic and features eight bays that are irregularly spaced. The exterior is made of droved sandstone ashlar. The central right bay has a lugged and pedimented doorway, which is flanked by one shop to the south and two shops to the north. The building has an eaves cornice and features a pair of tripartite piend-roofed dormers on the left and one on the right.
The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, including a 12-pane window on the stair and the second floor to the left. The building has ashlar coped skews and stone stacks, which have been rebuilt to the north and are partly rendered at the center, topped with grey slates.
The interior has undergone significant alterations and divisions, but there may be some surviving features from the original design.
