Description
14, 16, and 18 Hanover Street in Edinburgh is a classical tenement building constructed between 1784 and 1790. It is three stories high with an attic and features six bays. The exterior is made of cleaned droved cream ashlar sandstone, and the ground floor has modern shops built out. The right bay has steps leading to a panelled door that opens to a common stair, framed by a polished ashlar surround and remnants of a band course. The cills on the first floor have been lowered. The building is topped with a pair of tall piend-roofed dormers.
The windows are timber sash and case, with six panes on the first floor and four panes on the second. The building has ashlar coped skews, a stone stack to the south, and rendered surfaces to the north, all covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
