7 Hanover Street, Edinburgh

7 Hanover Street in Edinburgh is a building constructed between 1784 and 1790, with later alterations and additions. Originally, it was a pair of two-storey and attic classical houses featuring three bays. The exterior is made of droved cream sandstone with timber architraves. At the ground level, modern shops have been built out, although an earlier shop cornice can still be seen on the south side.

The three right bays have lugged architraves on the upper floors, added around 1900, and are corniced with keystones at the first floor. The three left bays feature a single large canted window at the first floor, with architraves on the second floor. There are two early 19th century bowed dormers, slate-hung, located on the outer bays.

The building has timber sash and case windows as well as casement windows, showcasing a variety of glazing. It also has stone mutual stacks and is covered with grey slates. The interior of the shops has been completely modernised.
