56 and 58 George Street in Edinburgh is a classical tenement building dating from around 1775, with an earlier 19th-century shop at the ground level. The structure is three stories tall with a basement and features four bays. It is constructed from droved cream sandstone ashlar that has been stone cleaned, with polished dressings and rusticated quoins.

The entrance to the common stair is located on the left, while the right side has a three-bay shopfront that includes splayed steps leading to a corniced door, with advanced architraved windows. Decorative cast-iron balconies adorn the second floor, and there is an earlier 19th-century canted dormer with a piend roof on the right side.

At the rear, there is a projecting rubble gable. The building has timber sash and case windows with 12 panes. The roof is piended to the east and features a large stone stack, covered with grey slates.

Inside, the former first-floor drawing room is divided but retains its original enriched plaster ceiling. The front of the property is complemented by early 20th-century cast-iron railings and ashlar piers at the steps.
