Description
3 and 4 Castle Terrace in Edinburgh is a classical tenement block built around 1831. It has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, featuring a six-bay design. The building is constructed from cream ashlar stone, which is channelled at the ground level. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors, topped with a moulded eaves cornice. The first-floor windows have a cill course and moulded, corniced architraves, while the second-floor windows have moulded surrounds.
Stone steps lead to the basement area, and there are timber panelled doors with plate glass fanlights in the first and fourth bays from the left. The attic features slate-hung dormers with tripartite windows. The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case with 8-pane glazing, and the roof is covered with grey slates, complemented by corniced stacks with circular cans.
The property is enclosed by a low ashlar boundary wall topped with spear-headed cast-iron railings.
