32-36 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh

32-36 Lauriston Place is a classical tenement building dating from around 1819. It is a four-storey and basement structure with six bays, set back behind a small garden. The building features cream ashlar stone, channelled at the ground level, with a lightly droved finish above and to the basement, while the rear is constructed of rubble. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors. Cill courses are present at the first and third floors, and there is a moulded eaves course.

Access is provided by stone steps and platts with cast-iron railings that cover the basement areas, leading to timber panelled doors with umbrella fanlights located between the first and second bays on the right and at the outer left. The first-floor windows have architraved surrounds, and the second-floor windows feature projecting cills. The windows are 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are corniced rendered stacks with circular cans at the ridge.

The property also includes a low coped ashlar boundary wall topped with spear-headed cast-iron railings. The railings have spear-headed finials on the cast-iron gate, and the gateposts are adorned with pine cone finials.
