Description

28, 30, and 32 Keir Street in Edinburgh is a plain classical tenement block built around 1810. It is three stories tall with a basement and features seven bays, closely resembling the nearby Nos 22-26. The building has channelled ashlar at the ground level, droved stone above, coursed rubble in the basement, and random rubble on the sides and rear. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors, a cill course at the first floor, projecting cills at the second floor, and a narrow eaves course.

Stone steps and platts lead to the basement areas. The center bay is slightly recessed and not channelled at the ground level, featuring a timber panelled door leading to the stair and two windows that light the stair above. The main door flats have timber panelled doors with sunburst fanlights, located in the third bay from the right (within a round-headed recessed surround) and in the second bay from the left. The building is regularly fenestrated with 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. It is topped with grey slates, stone skews, and corniced stacks with circular cans.

The boundary wall features decorative finials on the cast-iron railings, which are set atop a low ashlar wall, and there are also finials on the steps and platts.
