Description
20 and 24 Lauriston Place is a classical tenement building dating from around 1819. It is a four-storey structure with a basement and features seven bays, set back behind a small garden. The exterior is made of cream ashlar stone, which is channelled at the ground level and lightly droved above and at the basement, while the rear is constructed of rubble. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors. Cill courses can be found at the first and third floors, and there is a moulded eaves course.
The entrance is accessed via stone steps and platts, which are adorned with cast-iron railings that cover the basement areas. The doors are timber panelled and feature umbrella fanlights, located at the centre and between the second and third bays from both the left and right. The first-floor windows have architraved surrounds and decorative cast-iron balconies are present on the first, second, and third windows from the left. The second-floor windows have projecting cills.
The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates and features corniced rendered stacks with circular cans at the ridge.
Additionally, there is a low coped ashlar boundary wall with spear-headed cast-iron railings. The railings have spear-headed finials at the gate and pine cone finials on the gateposts.
