Description
28, 30, 32 Keir Street is a plain classical tenement block built around 1810, featuring three stories and a basement with seven bays. The building has channelled ashlar at the ground level, droved stone above, coursed rubble in the basement, and random rubble at the rear. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors, along with a cill course at the first floor and projecting cills at the second floor. The narrow eaves course adds to the architectural detail.
Stone steps and platts lead to the basement areas. The slightly recessed central bay, which is not channelled at the ground, contains a timber panelled door to the stair and two windows that light the stair above. The main doors to the flats are timber panelled with sunburst fanlights, located in the third bay from the left within a round-headed recessed surround and in the second bay from the right. The building is regularly fenestrated, with a round-headed recess for the window on the outer right at the ground level and blind windows above the door to No 26.
The windows feature 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are stone skews and corniced stacks with circular cans.
The boundary wall and railings consist of spear-headed cast-iron railings on a low ashlar boundary wall, leading to the steps and platts, with pine cone finials on the basement gates.
