8 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh

8 Lauriston Place in Edinburgh is a classical end of terrace tenement built around 1814. It stands four storeys high and features three bays, with a distinctive bow at the corner of Heriot Place. The building is set back behind a small garden and is constructed from cream sandstone ashlar, which is channelled at the ground floor and lightly droved above, while the rear is made of rubble.

Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band between the ground and first floors, cill courses on the first and second floors, and projecting cills on the third floor. The eaves are mutuled. The ground floor has a timber panelled door with decorative bracketed detail above, along with a window to the left, both set in recessed round-arched openings. The first-floor windows are framed by corniced architraved surrounds.

The building features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, a roof covered with grey slates, and rendered stacks with circular cans at the ridge.

The property is also defined by a low coped ashlar boundary wall topped with spear-headed cast-iron railings. The gate is made of cast iron with spear-headed finials, and the gateposts are adorned with pine cone finials.
