6, 8, 10 Keir Street, Edinburgh

This building, located at 6, 8, and 10 Keir Street in Edinburgh, dates from around 1832 and is a plain classical tenement block. It features a recessed bowed corner bay on the outer left, which leads to a spiral common stair. The exterior is made of cream ashlar, with the ground level channelled and the basement and upper floors lightly droved. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors, along with a cill course at the third floor and a narrow eaves course. The building has a regular arrangement of windows.

Access to the basement areas is via stone steps and platts, although these have been filled in at Nos 6 and 10. At No 2, there is a timber door set in a Doric pilastered and corniced doorpiece leading to the stair. No 8 has a timber door to the flats, while Nos 10 and 6 feature timber panelled doors with border-glazed fanlights.

The windows are 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The building has corniced stacks that are rendered and topped with circular cans. The boundary wall is low ashlar, topped with spear-headed cast-iron railings and features pine-cone finials on the basement gates.
