Description
32-36 Lauriston Place is a classical tenement building dating from around 1819. It is a four-storey structure with a basement and features four bays. The building is slightly set forward from its neighbors on either side and is positioned behind a small garden. The exterior is made of cream ashlar stone, which is channelled at the ground level and lightly droved above and at the basement, with rubble at the rear.
There is a dividing band between the ground and first floors, cill courses at the first and third floors, and a moulded eaves course that is raised at the sides and center. Access to the building is via stone steps and platts with cast-iron railings that cover the basement area, leading to timber panelled doors located in the two outer right bays, with an umbrella fanlight to the left. The ground floor features round-arched recessed openings for both doors and windows. The first-floor windows have corniced and architraved surrounds, while the second-floor windows have projecting cills and moulded surrounds.
The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are corniced rendered stacks with circular cans at the ridge.
The boundary wall consists of a low coped ashlar wall topped with spear-headed cast-iron railings, which have spear-headed finials on the gate and pine cone finials on the gateposts.
