14 Broughton Place, Edinburgh

14 Broughton Place is a classical tenement building from 1809, featuring three storeys, a basement, and an attic. It has a prominent palace-fronted design with seven bays. The exterior is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with rustication at the ground level and a rock-faced basement. The ground floor has a corniced impost and a course at the center bays, along with a band course between the ground and first floors, and a cill band at the first and second floors. The first-floor bays are adorned with moulded architraves and cornices, while the eaves cornice and slightly advanced blocking course add to the architectural detail. The central three bays are pedimented, featuring an oculus in the tympanum, and the entrance is accessed via ashlar steps and entrance platts that oversail the basement.

On the principal elevation, there are three timber panelled doors set in round-arched entrances at the center, with windows in the outer bays and a small window to the left of the center bays. The upper floors have regular fenestration, including two canted tripartite windows and a small box dormer above. The windows are timber sash and case, with 12-pane and plate glass glazing. The building has wallhead and ridge stacks with terracotta cans, skews, and cast-iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998.
