Description

1786-92; early 19th century alterations at ground. 3-storey with raised basement and attic, 6-bay classical tenement with shops at basement and ground. Droved cream sandstone ashlar with polished dressings; eaves cornice. Right bay with steps to architraved doorpiece with cornice and elaborate rosette frieze; glazed door to common stair. Inner right bay with steps to Ionic columned doorpiece of ground floor shop; 5 large plate glass windows to left (to each bay) framed by fluted pilasters between base course and entablature. Centre right bay with steps down to basement door with consoled cornice; 3-bay shop with raised architraves to left in basement. 2 narrow piend-roofed dormers at centre with further broad inset dormer to left.

Timber sash and case windows; plate glass at 1st floor, 4-pane at 2nd. Ashlar coped skews; rendered stacks (vestigial stone mutual stack to S, with skew and eaves of former building); grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
