4 Broughton Place, Edinburgh

8 Broughton Place is a symmetrical terrace of houses built in 1809, featuring 15 bays and two storeys with an attic and basement. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with rustication at the ground level, a rock-faced basement, a base course, a band course between the floors, and a cill band at the first floor. The first-floor windows have moulded architraves and cornices, while the eaves are corniced with a blocking course. The entrance platts extend over the basement.

On the principal elevation, there are timber panelled doors with fanlights located in bays 3, 4, 9, 12, and 13, with windows in the remaining bays and regular fenestration above. The roof features two piended and canted tripartite dormers for Nos 4 and 10, piended and canted dormers for Nos 6 and 8, and a full-width box dormer for No 12, along with rooflights.

The windows are timber sash and case, mainly with 12-pane glazing, although some have plate glass. The building has ridge stacks with terracotta cans, skews, and decorative cast-iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998, but No 10 was previously used as a printers and has a lift along with late 19th-century alterations.
