Description

This building, located at 93, 95, 97, 99, and 101 Broughton Street in Edinburgh, was constructed in 1819. It is a three-storey and mansard, twelve-bay terraced corner tenement, featuring seven bays facing Broughton Street and five bays facing Broughton Place. The building has later projecting shops at the ground level. Notable architectural details include a base course, a fascia band for the shops, moulded architraves and cornices on the first floor, a cill band on the second floor, corniced eaves, and pedimented dormers.

On the west elevation facing Broughton Street, there are 15 bays at ground level with stylised pilasters. The fourth and seventh bays have recessed shop entrances flanked by three large shop windows. Above, there are multi-pane windows spanning seven bays. The eighth bay features a timber panelled common stair door with a large fanlight. To the right, there is a three-bay shop with a recessed entrance and flanking large shop windows, followed by three large shop windows at the outer right, including a corner shop entrance. The upper floors have regular fenestration.

The south elevation facing Broughton Place has eight bays at ground level, with recessed shop entrances in the fifth and seventh bays and large shop windows in the remaining bay. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with the penultimate bay on the left blocked at the first floor and blinded at the second floor for symmetry.

The building features timber sash and case windows with six-pane upper and two-pane lower glazing, grey slates on the roof, wide wall head stacks with terracotta cans, and skews. The interior was not seen in 1998.
