30 Broughton Street, 28, Edinburgh

30 Broughton Street is a mid-19th century, three-storey, four-bay terraced tenement that features shopfronts at ground level and a chamfered corner bay on the left side. The principal elevation is constructed of broached ashlar, while the southeast elevation is made of stugged ashlar and coursed rubble. There is a cornice between the first and second floors, and the openings on the principal elevation are shouldered and chamfered, with long and short quoins.

On the northeast (principal) elevation, there are two pairs of three-bay pilastered shopfronts that project at ground level, each with a cornice and blocking course. These shopfronts include recessed modern glazed doors flanked by plate glass windows, with glazed returns at the doors and blind returns at the sides, infilled on the outer left. The floors above have regular fenestration.

The southeast elevation has a single bay that is recessed to the left, mostly blank, with a window on the left at the first floor and another aligned above it at the second floor.

The northwest elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately as 32-32C Broughton Street.

The building predominantly features four-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The wallhead stacks are rendered, with some breaking the pitch of the roof; they are corniced and coped, with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1998, but there is evidence of working panelled shutters.
