Description

30, 32, 34 Broughton Place is a classical terraced corner tenement built in 1809 and restored around 1995. It is three stories high with a basement and attic, featuring a five-by-four bay layout. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with rusticated stonework at the ground level and a rock-faced basement. It has a base course, an impost cornice course at the ground, and projecting cills at the ground level. There is a band course between the ground and first floors, along with moulded architraves and cornices around the first-floor windows on the main elevation. The first and second floors have a cill band, with projecting cills on the first floor of the east elevation. The building is topped with corniced eaves and a blocking course, and features ashlar steps and entrance platts that oversail the basement.

On the south (principal) elevation, there is a timber panelled door set in a pilastered entrance, topped with a round-arched radial fanlight at the center. The remaining bays have windows set in round-arched recesses, with regular fenestration above. The roof features two piended and shallowly canted tripartite dormers.

The east elevation, facing East Broughton Place, has a full-height bowed bay on the left, with Serlian windows that have balustraded aprons at each floor and Ionic capitals at the first floor. There is a timber panelled door in a pilastered entrance with a round-arched radial fanlight at the center, and windows on each floor above. The third bay has small windows at each floor, while the windows in the bays to the right are blinded on the ground and first floors for symmetry. Above, there is a canted bipartite dormer.

The building features timber sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing, a roof covered in grey slates, and stacks with terracotta cans. Arrowhead cast-iron railings complete the exterior. The interior was not seen in 1998.
