Description

The watch tower at St Cuthbert's Church on Lothian Road dates back to 1827 and was restored in 1990. It is a two-stage circular tower, although only the lower stage is visible from King's Stables Road. The tower is constructed of cream ashlar and features a roll-moulded cill course at the first floor, a moulded eaves course, and a crenellated parapet. The lower stage includes a timber panelled door with a fanlight, set in a cavetto-moulded round-arched surround that leads to the churchyard. The tower also has windows, some of which are blind, all framed in cavetto-moulded surrounds, and features small-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows.
