Description

P L Henderson, 1898. 4-storey and mansard attic, 7-bay Freestyle office with public bar and shops at ground. Red sandstone ashlar at ground, snecked rubble with ashlar dressings above. Narrow pilasters at ground, with plate glass windows; arched windows at 1st floor; mullions and transoms at 2nd floor, with cornice above. Centre bay framed by narrow pilasters; outer bays slightly advanced. Splayed corners with 2-leaf panelled doors in arched doorpieces; canted oriels above. Bipartite windows to 2nd and 3rd floors, tripartite at centre. At 3rd floor tripartite arcade at centre with Ionic columns. Eaves cornice, raised at centre. Mansard roof with 6 corniced timber dormers.

Simple 3-bay return elevations. 7-bay rear elevation with bipartite windows.

Timber plate glass sash and case and casement windows. Mansard roof, grey slates; corniced wallhead ashlar stacks; grey slates.

INTERIOR: original bar interiors.
