Description

A one-and-one-half storey vernacular farmhouse, likely dating to the mid-19th century, stands with a small attached outbuilding to the north. The property is presently used as a shelter for farm animals. It is situated to the east of Moyad Road, approximately 1.5 miles south of Kilcoo and 5 miles west of Newcastle.

The west front of the house is divided into two sections – the right-hand section is two storeys high, while the left-hand section is single storey. To the far right is the outbuilding, which appears to have merged with the main structure. Within the single-storey section, to the right, is the original front entrance, now without a door. The two-storey section features a ground-floor window opening centrally, with a corresponding opening on the first floor; both have lost their sashes. This two-storey portion has a gable and a chimney stack at each apex. A significant portion of the west facade is obscured by extensive plant growth. The south gable is blank. The east facade has one central first-floor window to the two-storey section and a small ground-floor window to the single-storey section. A very low lean-to structure, located at the far right of the east facade, may have previously been used for livestock. The roof is finished in Bangor Blue slate, but is partially overgrown with plants. Rainwater goods are missing, and most of the windows lack sashes.

An Ordnance Survey map from 1859 depicts a building on this site that corresponds to the present structure. Documentary evidence including Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1859, and Griffith's Valuation records from 1863, support the building's presence and context in the mid-19th century. The building is recorded as derelict and exemplifies vernacular architecture.
