Description
This is a small, single-storey vernacular farmhouse likely dating to the mid-19th century, specifically between 1840 and 1859. It is situated on the north-west side of Slievenaman Road, approximately four miles west of Newcastle. The house faces roughly west and has an asymmetrical front façade. A gabled porch is positioned slightly left of centre, featuring a doorway with a partly glazed door. To the left of the porch is a narrow window with a modern frame, and to the right is a similar window. Two very small upper-level windows with fixed light frames are set into the north gable. The south gable features a large, rubble-built shed with a corrugated iron roof. A small lean-to is located to the rear, to the right, with two small fixed light windows and a timber-sheeted door on the north side. The façade is harled and whitewashed, and the gabled roof is covered with roughly hewn local natural slate, featuring a slight overhang with plain barges to the north. Rendered chimney stacks are present on each gable. A building is shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1859, which in the 1863 valuation records was occupied by Anne McKnight and had a very low rateable value of £1, suggesting it is likely the same dwelling as the one seen today.
