Description
This is a single arched bridge, likely built between 1820 and 1839, carrying Trassey Road over the Trassey River. Located four miles west of Newcastle, it sits to the east of the Trassey valley. The bridge is constructed of rubble stone with rough voussoirs forming the semicircular arch, which rises directly from a rock outcrop. Relatively low parapets have flat stone coping, primarily granite. Ivy growth covers both faces of the bridge, and tie rods have been inserted into the structure. The road surface is tarmac, bordered by grass verges. A bridge at this location is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1859, labelled “Trassey Bridge” on the latter. The semicircular arch suggests the bridge’s main construction is pre-1834. The structure possesses industrial archaeological interest.
