Derryleckagh Bridge, Derryleckagh Road, Newry, Co Down, BT34 2NL

The Derryleckagh Bridge carries a minor road over the Clanrye River, likely dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of random granite rubble throughout, and comprises three arches. Two of these are semicircular, located to the south, and feature angled cutwaters on both the upper and lower faces, extending up to the arch spring level. A smaller segmental arch is situated at the northern end; this may have originally functioned as a flood arch, although the river bed’s subsequent deepening now results in water flowing through it. The parapet is coped with squared granite blocks, and both faces have been heavily repointed with cement. Recent strengthening works have involved the creation of plinths at the base of the arches. The bridge is shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834. While not of particular architectural merit for its scale, it possesses industrial archaeological interest.
