Description

This vernacular house, likely built between 1800 and 1819, is typical of those found in the surrounding area. While the replacement roof and door lessen its character, the house retains some original features.

The single-storey, three-bay house has its gable fronting onto Ballyholland Road. It is topped by an asbestos slated roof with a single red brick chimney situated between the middle and right bays. A broad cement skew is visible on the south gable. The walls are whitewashed and rendered random rubble stone with a tarred base course. The main elevation faces east. Two slightly projecting stones are built into this front wall—one to the right of the entrance door and one beneath the central bay window. All windows are 2/2 vertically divided sliding sashes with horns. The left bay has a single window with a roughly dressed granite cill. A modern tongue and groove sheeted entrance door, with a glazed upper section, is located to the left of the central bay, alongside a single window without a cill. The right bay has a single window with a granite cill. The left gable is blank and faces Ballyholland Road. A 1/1 sliding sash window is located in the left bay on the rear elevation, and a two-paned fixed window is in the central bay. The right bay is blank. The right gable abuts a single bay, single-storey outbuilding with a pitched natural slate roof and walls similar to the main block. A flat iron gate, hung between two cylindrical random rubble piers with domed caps, accesses a small front yard, each pier featuring wheel stones.

The house appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834. It wasn't included in the first Valuation (around 1835), suggesting its valuation was less than £5, but it is likely the same building as currently stands.
