Description

This is a single-storey, three-bay vernacular house situated on the west side of Ballydoo Road in the townland of Carnany, near Mayobridge, Newry. The house is likely to have been built in the early 19th century, appearing on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834. It was originally unvalued, indicating a property worth less than £5. Valuation records show no changes to its value between the 1860s and the 1920s.

The house has a pitched roof covered with natural slate, with two rendered and coped chimneys – one to the right gable and one between the left and centre bays. An advanced eaves course supports metal rainwater goods. The walls are constructed of random rubble and lime render. The north-facing principal elevation features windows with vertically divided sashes, horns, and granite cills. A porch with a natural slate roof that matches the main roof pitch and walls matching the facade is located to the right of the centre bay, which also has a single window to its left. Single windows are located in the left and right bays. The left gable is blank. The rear elevation comprises two top-hung casement windows, one in the centre bay and one in the right bay. The right gable is fully abutted by a single-storey outbuilding with a tongue-and-groove door positioned centrally; this outbuilding is not of architectural interest.
