Description

This is an attractive farmyard outbuilding, now isolated from its original house. The building is two stories high with three bays, situated adjacent to a derelict house on the north side of Tamry Hill. It has a hipped roof covered with natural slate, and lacks rainwater goods. The walls are constructed of granite blocks laid in courses and faced, with painted brick dressings around openings and a brick eaves course. The main elevation faces south. The central bay on the ground floor features a pair of large metal doors set within a semi-elliptical headed opening. The left and right bays each have vertically jointed (t+g) sheeted doors with brick segmental heads. The first floor has three evenly spaced circular window openings with brick dressings. The left gable is blank. The rear elevation incorporates ventilation holes on the ground floor, and rectangular window openings with vertically jointed shutters on the left and middle bays of the first floor. A vertically jointed loading door is located in the right bay. The right gable has a pair of vertically jointed doors leading to the first floor, accessed by a flight of eight external granite steps. A ruinous house is located in the front garden. The building first appeared on the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of 1901-02. Valuation records from the 1860s to the 1920s do not provide details about its construction, but the brick dressings suggest a date within the later 19th century, specifically between 1860 and 1879.
