Description

This is a single-storey, three-bay vernacular house located off Ballykeel Road, close to a similar building (HB16/09/021). The house likely dates to the early 19th century, as evidenced by its presence on an 1834 Ordnance Survey map and consistent valuation records from the 1860s to the 1920s. Originally thatched, the roof is now corrugated metal, a common replacement for thatch.

The principal elevation, which faces east, features a rendered and coped chimney to the party wall between the left and central bays. The front has a tripartite window in the left bay, comprising a 6/3 sash window with 2/2 sidelights, all without horns. A projecting entrance porch with a corrugated metal roof, tied into the main roof pitch, occupies the central bay and contains a tongue-and-groove sheeted door. To the left of the porch is a 6/3 sliding sash window, also without horns. The right bay has two vertically divided 2/2 sliding sash windows with horns. All windows lack cills. A single-storey outbuilding with a slightly higher pitched natural slate roof and lime-rendered stone walls abuts the left gable. A smaller, similar outbuilding to the left of the main house has a pitched corrugated metal roof. The rear elevation features a 2/2 sliding sash in the right bay, alongside modern top-hung casement windows in the centre bay and a shallower outshot window on the left. A large modern fixed window is present in the outbuilding at the right end. The right gable is blank. A modern outbuilding of concrete blockwork with a corrugated metal roof and a metal casement window stands opposite the front of the house. A bedroom outshot is a notable, unusual feature for this area. The house was formerly a thatched building and has been recorded as derelict at some point in the past.
