21 Ballykeel Road, Mayobridge, Newry, Co Down, BT34 5AZ

This is a two-storey, three-bay house, likely built between 1840 and 1859. It was first shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1860. Originally of some architectural interest, the building now retains very few of its original features.

The house has a pitched concrete tiled roof with modern overhanging barges and boxed eaves, and modern brick chimneys to each gable. The walls are wet-dashed with a smooth basecourse. A pitched tiled roof porch is centrally located on the front elevation; it has a stained timber door on its left side and a modern multi-paned casement window on its front gable. There are similar single windows to each remaining bay at ground floor and three to the first floor, all with concrete cills. The rest of the house has been similarly detailed.

According to an early survey, the original house was constructed of regular coursed granite rubble with trimmings and a pitched natural slate roof above a square eaves cornice. Rendered chimneys rose from each gable. It had Georgian glazed windows with nine panes, set in block brick dressings. The front elevation was symmetrical, but the openings were slightly set to the left of centre. A brick porch with a pitched roof and moulded timber bargeboard featured a door with a margin-paned transom above it. The ground floor bays each had a single 6/6 sliding sash window, and the first floor had three 6/3 sliding sashes in line with the ground floor openings. The walls were originally of snecked squared granite, coursed, with red brick dressings to the openings and brick eaves.
