10 Lurgancahone Road, Rathfriland, Newry, Co Down, BT34 5AU

A house, originally built between 1840 and 1859, stood on Lurgancahone Road in Rathfriland, County Down. It first appeared on the 1860 Ordnance Survey map. The original building was a one and a half storey, two-bay vernacular house. It had a pitched natural slate roof with rendered and coped chimneys to each gable, a cement skew to the left gable, and an advanced eaves course with rainwater goods. The walls were lime rendered and whitewashed. The front elevation featured an advanced, mono-pitched entrance porch with a natural slate roof, blank cheeks, and a sheeted timber door. To either side of the porch were 4/2 sliding sash windows with horns and roughly dressed cills. To the right of the porch was a smaller 3/3 sliding sash window with a more finely dressed cill. A small window to the left gable served the attic space. A lean-to porch was situated at the rear. The house was described as being in poor condition when surveyed in 1970. The original vernacular building has since been demolished and replaced with a modern bungalow.
