Description

A single storey, three bay, direct entry house with corrugated iron roofing in two levels. The building extends to the north-east as a store followed by a small lean-to structure. The house occupies a roadside position, facing north-west, travelling north-east from Mayobridge to Rathfriland just over a mile and a half from the former town. The corrugated iron covering the two right hand (south-west) bays terminates at the extremities by means of a concrete skew. The third bay to the left (north-east) is at a lower level and its roof abuts against the right hand section. The remains of a concrete coping delineates the junction of this part of the building with the store that extends to the left hand (north-east) side. A flue pipe rises above the ridge at this point and the opposite side is terminates by means of a large concrete coping. At the left-hand end of the building the lean-to store is roofed with corrugated iron. A corbelled red brick rendered chimney rises above the kitchen hearth of the main house. The external construction of the building is of whitened roughcast stone with a base that projects slightly on the two right hand sections and on the porch. The entrance within a windbreak porch with flush door is roofed with a concrete slab containing a square projecting cornice. To the right (south-west) of the porch there are two, and to the left one vertically sliding window with sashes divided into two horizontally and with moulded sash stops. Externally protection is provided by plastic sheeting painted to resemble foursquare windows. The openings are set in plain painted surrounds and sills are of traditional depths. A half door gives access to the first store with larger planks to the lower part and the lean-to store is entered by a flush door. There is a small timber-framed unglazed opening in the gable of this store. The gables of the house and main store are blank and there is no external access to the rear of the building.
