24 Carmeen Road, Hilltown, Newry, Co Down, BT34 5TL

This is a single-story, three-bay vernacular farmhouse, likely dating from the early 19th century (approximately 1800-1819). It is accessed from a lane on the east side of Carmeen Road. The house was marked on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834 and was originally valued at under £5. Subsequent valuations show a decrease in value over time, likely attributable to a reduction in the number of outbuildings. The roof is now pitched corrugated metal, but was formerly thatched, as recalled by the current owner, who has lived in the house for over 80 years.

The principal, north-west facing elevation features random rubble walls rendered and whitewashed, with rendered skews and a raised eaves course. Each bay contains a single, vertically divided, two-over-two sliding sash window with horns and a painted sill. The central bay features an entrance porch with a pitched corrugated metal roof, plain timber bargeboard, walls matching the main facade, and a sheeted door. The porch sides are blank. The left gable is similarly blank, while the right gable abuts a lower outbuilding, of no particular interest, with a corrugated metal roof and walls matching the main facade. The rear elevation was not inspected.
