Description

Derelict lime kiln behind ruined farmstead to N of Lower Knockbarragh Rd. Square in plan, standing 2.6m high at front (to NE) and 0.8m high to rear. No evidence of a loading platform. Of quarried random Silurian rubble. Circular tapering pot lined with rounded field stones is 2.5m diameter at top; now partly infilled. Entrance to drawhole defined by a granite lintel, the opening of which measures 1.3m wide by 1.6m high. Side walls taper in and step back and down to drawhole proper at back of passage. The actual hole is now buried, but a small ventilation hole is still evident above. Part of the frontage to right of drawhole has collapsed.
