Lime Kiln along lane opposite, 148 Aughnahoory Rd, Kilkeel, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4HG

This is a lime kiln, typical of those found in the Mourne area, and is in good condition within its landscape setting. Constructed of random rubble granite fieldstones, the kiln measures approximately 4.1 metres in diameter and 3.7 metres high, with a pot measuring around 2.0 metres in diameter. The draw hole, which faces south, has a plug and a horizontal lintel above it, supported by angled, stepped corbels. There is no visible ramp. The kiln was depicted on an Ordnance Survey map from 1859, but not on the 1834 edition, suggesting a construction date between 1820 and 1839. It is now disused and of industrial archaeological interest.
