Description

Decorative cast iron carriage gates on cast-iron square piers, with a pedestrian gate similarly hung on either side. The gates stand just under 2m high and have spearheaded with vegetal decoration and cast iron fretwork at bottom. The gate piers are vermiculated ashlar granite and have projecting domed panels on each face, and pyramidal caps above. Gates flanked on both sides by squared rock-faced ashlar granite walls with terminal stone piers. These walls stand c.1.7 m high with oversailing granite coping stones. Following a recent accident the second pillar from left was shattered and the left vehicle gate was removed for safekeeping. It is believed that Water Service intend have the pillar recast, but it is currently missing.
